Health Care: Choice or Complacency ?
I believe wealth is fantastic ! The wealthy are not bad people per say, and I believe the accumulation of wealth, when done with regard to others, is capitalism at it's best. That's the way our great country thrives. Now trust me, I know the whole idea of getting ahead sometimes means stepping on the backs of others (which I disagree with to a certain point), and I by no means am advocating the ideology of oppression or classicism. But I do support the idea of a capitalistic society, because let's face it, we all need to be paid. That being said, our current health care system is the fuckin' pits, because it blatantly oppresses, demoralizes and bankrupt not only our ideals but also our pockets. President Obama's (or as I like to refer to him as "The Chosen One") health care reformation is an amazing idea that would not only provide a low cost alternative to our grossly overpriced privatized current system, but could help us not become a third world country (not that there's anything wrong with that). When 50 million Americans are without current health care, and are forced to make choices such as whether to eat or go to the doctor, then it's time to take a closer look at what makes this country great. Is it it's idea of choice or complacency ? Do we really have a choice when it comes to the health of our family ? Or do we have to except the given circumstances that force us to die off slowly ? Now I'm no Republican basher... wait, who am I kidding, I think Republicans are pieces of uneducated trash, but the absurdity of people (most of whom are wealthy and have great health care) who are only about the idea of keeping the most and getting more on the backs of others, and sensationalizing the idea of "Death Panels" which will decide whether nana or grampy lives, and who support the whole idea of the middle class and lower class DYING OFF is ridiculous. I do support the notion of death panels, but only for such people. Let's face it, if our system doesn't undergo some type of reformation, namely the one presented by our fearless leader, then we won't only become bankrupt financially as a country, but morally as well. HEALTH CARE REFROM IS NEEDED NOW ! And if you don't think so, I can hit you over the head with a Jack Daniel's bottle and you can take a trip to the emergency room. See how much that'll cost you.

RiverFlicks for Grown-Ups - Pineapple Express
Date: Wednesday, August 19th
Time: Dusk (around 8:30pm)
Location: Pier 54 (14th St. and the Hudson River)
Cost: Free
On top of getting to watch movies overlooking Hudson River on beautiful summer nights, the other thing I like about River Flicks is that every year they pick a central theme for their screenings. This year's they "know what you did last summer" and screen films released in 2008. Tonight is the finale of this summer's series, and what better way to go out than with last year's stoner classic Pineapple Express.
